China’s largest offshore oil field, the Bohai Oil Field, has achieved a record level of oil and gas production, surpassing 40 million tons of oil equivalent in 2025. This milestone is expected to make a significant contribution to national energy security and economic development.
According to the China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC), the Bohai Oil Field—recognized as the country’s leading offshore oil field in terms of both production capacity and scale—has reached this record output, thereby providing strong support for national energy security as well as high-quality economic and social development.
CNOOC data indicate that the Bohai Oil Field operates more than 60 oil and gas fields and has cumulatively produced over 600 million tons of crude oil to date. Over the past five years, oil and gas output from the field has increased at an average annual rate of approximately 5 percent, reflecting sustained growth in offshore energy production.
The company further emphasized that the Bohai Oil Field has made notable progress in advancing digitalization and green transformation initiatives. These efforts include significant breakthroughs in the localization of critical equipment, such as the commissioning of China’s first domestically developed shallow-water subsea production system. In addition, more than 80 percent of offshore platforms in the Bohai Oil Field are now connected to the onshore power grid, underscoring ongoing improvements in energy efficiency and environmental performance.
