In Ceará, Brazil, the Mariti Solar Energy Project, built by China Electric Power Construction Group (PowerChina) under the Belt and Road Initiative, has reached a total installed capacity of 425 megawatts and is now fully connected to the power grid. In addition to strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure, the project has created over 2,000 jobs, significantly contributing to the local economy. Completed through the collaboration of Chinese engineers and Brazilian workers, the project marks a deepening of energy cooperation between the two countries.
Thanks to China’s investments, Mariti has seen a rise in trade and employment opportunities, generating an additional 18 million Brazilian reais in revenue for the city. Mariti Mayor João Furtado emphasized the project’s long-term benefits and highlighted the role of cooperation with China in supporting local development. Implemented under the Belt and Road Initiative, this project not only contributes to Brazil’s clean energy goals but also strengthens China’s economic ties in Latin America.
The solar energy investment in Mariti goes beyond electricity generation by providing technical training to local workers, helping to develop a skilled workforce. With 80% of project employees recruited locally, the initiative boosts job opportunities while encouraging young people in the region to pursue careers in renewable energy. Chinese officials have reaffirmed their commitment to investing in sustainable projects in Latin America under the Belt and Road Initiative, further promoting regional integration and economic development.
