Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that the 50-year development of China-European Union (EU) relations should be built on the foundations of partnership and cooperation. Speaking at a joint press conference in Berlin with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, Wang said China-EU ties have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership and should evolve toward a more mature, autonomous, and visionary future.
Wang noted that some actors are trying to downplay China-EU relations, turn economic matters into security issues, and distort reality with prejudice and misinformation. He stressed that denying the achievements of the past clouds the outlook for the future. Wang reaffirmed China’s firm support for European integration, strategic autonomy, and the EU’s role as a key pillar of a multipolar world.
He added that China has never started wars or participated in conflicts and contributes around 30 percent to global economic growth annually. Stressing China’s commitment to peaceful resolution of international disputes through dialogue, Wang said China’s development represents a growing force for global peace and that the country is ready to cooperate with all partners — including European nations — in shaping a shared future for humanity.
