Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that China is ready to work with Malaysia to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries on building a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future. Wang made the remarks during a meeting in Kuala Lumpur with Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan.
He emphasized the full implementation of Belt and Road cooperation plans and called for steady progress on key projects such as the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative. Wang also proposed deepening cooperation in emerging industries, including the development of regional hubs for advanced productive forces. He highlighted the importance of strengthening dialogue between Confucian and Islamic civilizations and welcomed the upcoming mutual visa exemption agreement to further enhance people-to-people ties.
Addressing China-ASEAN relations, Wang said the two sides are good neighbors and partners, citing the successful conclusion of the Version 3.0 China-ASEAN Free Trade Area negotiations. He criticized the United States’ high tariffs on ASEAN countries, labeling them as acts of unilateralism and bullying. Wang stressed that China’s countermeasures aim to protect not only its own interests but also those of ASEAN and the broader international community. He reaffirmed China’s willingness to work with ASEAN to uphold multilateralism, stabilize global supply chains, and promote inclusive economic globalization.
Malaysian FM Mohamad Hasan noted that Malaysia-China ties are at a historical high and emphasized the importance of strengthening both bilateral and ASEAN cooperation amid global uncertainty. He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to the one-China policy and expressed support for China’s Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives. Hasan added that Malaysia is ready to deepen cooperation with China in trade, infrastructure, the digital economy, and green development. He concluded by stating that Malaysia would not prioritize its own interests at the expense of others, in keeping with ASEAN values.
