Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and enhance mutual respect between China and Germany. He called on Berlin to view China’s development as an opportunity and to support the advancement of their strategic partnership. The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis.
BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhua) — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China and Germany, as major countries, should shoulder their responsibilities, uphold mutual respect, overcome differences in social systems, historical experiences, and cultural backgrounds, and work toward a more advanced model of positive interaction and a more stable bilateral policy framework.
Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, met on Monday in Beijing with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. He expressed the hope that Germany would regard China’s development as a driver of deeper cooperation and mutual benefit, and jointly promote the steady and healthy development of the China-Germany all-round strategic partnership.
Wang called on Germany to guide the European Union toward a more rational and pragmatic China policy, remain committed to mutually beneficial cooperation, resolve differences through dialogue, and avoid politicizing economic issues, instrumentalizing trade matters, or placing normal cooperation within a security framework.
Reaffirming that the one-China principle constitutes a key political foundation of China–Germany relations and allows no ambiguity, Wang contrasted Germany’s stance with Japan’s lack of comprehensive historical introspection regarding its aggression since the end of World War II.
Wadephul emphasized that, amid global turbulence, Germany and China must assume special responsibilities, strengthen communication and cooperation, and become reliable and predictable partners. He reiterated Germany’s firm adherence to the one-China policy and stressed that this position remains unchanged.
Wadephul also noted that German enterprises in China maintain strong confidence in the Chinese market and are willing to further expand their presence. He expressed support for EU–China efforts to seek mutually beneficial and win-win outcomes through dialogue and signaled Berlin’s readiness to play a constructive role.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis. Wadephul outlined Germany’s position and expressed the hope that China would use its influence to help bring the conflict to an early end.
Reiterating China’s firm stance, Wang underscored the need for all parties to preserve the current momentum toward a political settlement, work in the same direction, and ultimately achieve a just, lasting, and binding peace agreement through dialogue and negotiation. He added that China supports all initiatives conducive to peace and will continue to play a constructive role.
