The third meeting of the China–Iran–Saudi Arabia Joint Committee was convened in Tehran, where the parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing trilateral cooperation and consolidating the diplomatic progress achieved since the 2023 Beijing Agreement. In the joint statement issued after the meeting, China reiterated its determination to continue supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening relations between Tehran and Riyadh.
According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, the meeting was attended by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Miao Deyu, and Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed bin Abdulkarim Al-Khereiji.
The communiqué emphasized that Iran and Saudi Arabia remain committed to the provisions of the Beijing Agreement, pledging continued efforts to enhance good-neighbourly relations. The statement also highlighted China’s constructive role in facilitating the diversification and deepening of ties between Tehran and Riyadh.
The three sides expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved in Iran–Saudi Arabia relations thus far. They underscored the importance of expanding direct channels of communication at all levels, noting that high-level reciprocal visits are particularly critical at a time when escalating regional tensions pose significant risks to global security.
The statement further called for an immediate cessation of Israel’s military operations in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, and condemned any action that violates Iran’s sovereignty. Iran, in turn, expressed appreciation for the clear and principled positions adopted by Saudi Arabia and China throughout this process.
Reaffirming their stance on Yemen, the parties reiterated support for an inclusive political settlement based on internationally recognized principles and conducted under United Nations auspices.
Background: The Beijing Agreement
On 10 March 2023, senior Iranian and Saudi officials met in Beijing under China’s mediation and signed an agreement to restore diplomatic relations. Following this development, Iran reopened its embassy in Riyadh, while Saudi Arabia resumed its diplomatic activities in Tehran. The ongoing trilateral meetings serve as a mechanism to monitor and advance the implementation of the Beijing Agreement.
