While millions of people around the world celebrate the Chinese New Year with their loved ones, Chinese engineers and workers working abroad within the scope of the Belt and Road Initiative continue their projects, contributing to global cooperation. Bringing the traditional New Year spirit to their workplaces, these individuals also strengthen friendship and solidarity, preserving Chinese culture in different countries.
The joy of the Chinese New Year was also felt in Serbia’s “Danube Corridor” highway project. Chinese and Serbian workers welcomed the new year by hanging red lanterns and putting up decorations featuring the traditional “happiness” character. Yang Guanling, an engineer working on the Budapest-Belgrade Railway project in Serbia, has been unable to celebrate the New Year in China for six years. While closely following the progress of the project, Yang mentioned that although it was sad not to see his family, his job requires him to take responsibility.
A similar atmosphere was experienced at the Senj Wind Power Plant in Croatia, built by China. Chinese and Croatian workers celebrated together, once again demonstrating the importance of cultural exchange. This project, which has been operational since 2021, not only provides economic benefits to the local community but also plays a significant role in the transition to sustainable energy. Despite being far from their loved ones, Chinese workers prioritize their commitment to the projects above all else.
Chinese workers involved in the Belt and Road projects are not only developing infrastructure but are also bringing Chinese culture to the world. The team working on the East Coast Rail Link project in Malaysia celebrated the New Year with traditional red lanterns. This 600-kilometer-long railway aims to foster strong connections between the eastern and western coasts of the country, contributing to economic development.
Chinese engineers and workers, far from their families, work selflessly all around the world, building bridges of friendship between countries. China’s Belt and Road Initiative not only contributes to economic development but also fosters cultural exchange and strengthens humanitarian bonds. These workers, sharing the excitement of the New Year with the people they work alongside, continue to plant seeds of peace and cooperation around the world.
