At the 2025 London Wine Fair, numerous Chinese vineyards are actively showcasing their products to wine experts, buyers, and restaurant and hotel owners from the UK and abroad. The three-day event, held from May 19 to 21 and attended by over 10,000 beverage industry professionals, highlights the growing potential of Chinese wines in the British market. Xie Zhentian, co-founder of Vinum Eurus Ltd, noted that this is the second time Chinese vineyards have participated in the fair, with the exhibition space dedicated to Chinese wines expanding nearly fivefold compared to last year. Interest in Chinese wines is rising, with many private clubs and hotels now including them on their menus.
China’s vast territory offers diverse ecological conditions ideal for wine production, contributing to the uniqueness of Chinese wines. According to Lily Zhang of Fei Tswei Winery, differences in sunlight, temperature, and latitude across regions enhance this appeal. Matt Ovenden, CEO of the UK-based online wine platform Wine Engine, praised the quality and storytelling behind northern Chinese wines, expressing interest in adding them to their offerings. To boost competitiveness, Chinese vineyards emphasize organic farming and advanced technology. Innovative wine labels featuring traditional Chinese cultural elements aim to attract younger consumers and increase the cultural value of Chinese wines in overseas markets.
