Passenger train services between Kunming, the capital of southwest China’s Yunnan Province, and Vientiane, the capital of Laos, have doubled starting Friday on the China-Laos Railway, according to China Railway Kunming Group Co., Ltd.
The new arrangement adds an additional pair of cross-border trains departing from both Kunming Railway Station and Kunming South Station, enhancing connectivity between the two countries.
Operating at speeds up to 160 km/h with Fuxing bullet trains, the services feature dual-standard power sockets (Chinese and Lao) and provide passenger information in Chinese, Lao, and English. Railway authorities from both countries plan to adjust schedules based on demand and enhance cross-departmental coordination to improve service quality. Since its inaugural cross-border service launch in April 2023, the railway has transported approximately 540,000 passengers from 115 countries and regions.
