The official opening ceremony of the China Cultural Center in Kuwait was held on Sunday in the Hawalli Governorate, marking the full operation of the first Chinese cultural center in the Gulf region.
Liu Xiang, Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait, said during the ceremony that the China Cultural Center in Kuwait stands as a symbol of the friendship between China and Kuwait. He noted that the center serves as an important platform for strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Liu added that the center began its trial operations in September 2023 and has since worked to promote cultural exchange and civilizational dialogue. “We believe that the China Cultural Center in Kuwait will add an even brighter chapter to the story of friendship and cooperation between our two countries,” he said.
The center’s director, Liu Jinhong, stated that the official inauguration marks a new beginning and a “spiritual encounter” between the two peoples. She emphasized the center’s commitment to deepening cultural cooperation, fostering mutual learning among civilizations, and contributing to the progress and development of both nations.
Al-Anoud Ibrahim Al-Sabah, Assistant Secretary-General of Kuwait’s National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, said that the center’s opening has created a new space for cultural exchange between the two countries. She expressed her hope that the center would become “a beacon of dialogue and a lasting bridge connecting two cultures bound by friendship and peace.”
The ceremony also featured a variety of artistic performances blending Chinese and Kuwaiti culture. Visitors took photos with a panda mascot, watched Tai Chi performances, and participated in paper-cutting workshops led by Chinese artists.
