On the evening of September 30, a reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China was held at the Great Hall of the People. General Secretary Xi Jinping attended the reception and delivered an important speech. His address summarized the nation’s remarkable achievements, rallied strength for further progress, and envisioned a bright future, serving as a powerful source of momentum for building a strong country and advancing national rejuvenation at this critical juncture.
Learning from history to strengthen resolve
Xi Jinping noted: “Over the past 76 years since the founding of New China, the Party has led the people to rely on themselves and strive continuously, achieving brilliant accomplishments that will be recorded in history.” He emphasized that all great achievements are the result of relentless struggle, and all great undertakings must be carried forward by building on the past. The journey of the Chinese nation from the brink of peril to great rejuvenation, Xi said, has been both arduous and inspiring.
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of victory
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. A series of commemorative events united the Party and the people, demonstrated China’s strength, and left a profound mark on the country’s journey toward building a strong nation and achieving national rejuvenation. Xi said these commemorations “greatly inspired the national spirit, stirred patriotic enthusiasm, and strengthened the will to struggle.”
Planning ahead: the 15th Five-Year Plan
On September 29, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting to deliberate on major issues concerning the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan for national economic and social development. In October, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee will be convened to discuss the draft proposal. Xi stressed: “We must firmly focus on the central task of the Party in the new era and new journey, plan and implement the goals and strategic measures of the 15th Five-Year Plan, and ensure decisive progress in basically achieving socialist modernization.”
Marching toward modernization with confidence
Over the past 76 years, China has undergone profound transformations through successive five-year plans. The upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan period will be a crucial stage for consolidating the foundation and making comprehensive progress toward socialist modernization. Xi underlined that the journey ahead will be increasingly challenging and that only by pressing forward can success be secured.
Carrying forward the spirit of struggle
Xi reminded the audience that last year he quoted a couplet from Mount Hengshan: “Following the right path requires effort halfway through; the summit is within reach, but only with tireless endeavor.” This year, he reiterated: “Realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is an unprecedented cause. Both aspirations and challenges inspire us to seize every moment and never slacken our efforts.”
With firm resolve and unyielding endeavor, Xi concluded, China will surely write an even more splendid chapter of Chinese modernization.
