The Hungary-Serbia Railway, one of the major cooperation projects under the “Belt and Road” Initiative between China and Hungary, is expected to be fully operational in 2025. Hungarian Minister of Construction and Transport Lázár János stated on January 3 that the completion of the railway would bring substantial economic benefits to the country.
Minister Lázár remarked, “We must acknowledge that Hungary is becoming a key nation in railway freight and transportation.” He emphasized that this modern railway line, connecting Budapest and Belgrade, will play a vital role not only in passenger transportation but also in freight transport. Lázár noted that large quantities of goods transported from China to the Balkans would be swiftly delivered to Western European countries via Hungary. He added that this development would generate significant revenues for the Hungarian State Railways, road operators, and the national economy.
Spanning approximately 350 kilometers, the Hungary-Serbia Railway links Budapest with Belgrade. Once completed, this modern railway will serve as a crucial transportation hub connecting Eastern and Central Europe, significantly enhancing the efficiency of logistics and passenger transportation in the two countries and the wider region.
