During China’s annual Two Sessions held in Beijing, Kenya’s Ambassador to China, Willy Bett, stated in an exclusive interview that China’s economic stability continues to positively contribute to the global economy. The ambassador highlighted the achievements in economic cooperation, cultural exchanges, and infrastructure projects between Kenya and China, expressing great optimism about future collaborations.Bett noted that he has attended China’s Two Sessions for two consecutive years and emphasized their significance not only for China but also for Kenya-China relations. He pointed out that this process allows Kenya to gain a clearer understanding of China’s development plans and presents new opportunities for bilateral cooperation.
Particularly emphasizing the Belt and Road Initiative’s substantial support for infrastructure projects in Africa, Bett stated that this initiative has contributed to Kenya’s logistics and economic growth. He cited the Mombasa-Nairobi Railway, a flagship project under China-Kenya cooperation, as a successful example of their partnership.
Bett highlighted that China’s GDP grew by 5% in 2024 and stressed that this growth is especially significant for Global South countries. He further noted that China’s Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, and Global Civilization Initiative are aimed at enhancing global prosperity.
Finally, Bett praised China’s achievements in advancing high-level opening-up. He stated that policies such as easing foreign investment restrictions and continuously improving the business environment have not only fostered China’s economic growth but also created more opportunities for global cooperation and shared benefits.
