The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria held an event at the China Cultural Center in Abuja to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. The event, themed “Her Story, Her Future,” brought together women from diverse backgrounds to celebrate their achievements and chart a path forward for gender equality.
In his speech at the event, Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria Yu Dunhai emphasized the significance of this year’s celebration, particularly as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. He highlighted China’s progress in safeguarding women’s rights and appreciated the global advancements in women’s empowerment.
Yu also noted that practical cooperation between China and Nigeria has deepened, providing Nigerian women with better healthcare, more agricultural skills, and increased business and entrepreneurial opportunities. Furthermore, he expressed that through high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, China and Nigeria will help more women realize their dreams.
