On December 12, the Green and Low-Carbon Expert Network (GLEN) Dialogue and the Belt and Road Green Development International Alliance (Green Alliance) Collaboration Meeting were held in Beijing. The event brought together over 100 domestic and international experts to deepen cooperation on green and low-carbon development, propose solutions for sustainable growth, and contribute to the green transition of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening international collaboration to achieve the goals of the “Green Silk Road.”
China’s “Green Development” initiative aims to establish innovative collaboration mechanisms within the framework of the BRI. These efforts include developing solutions through expert networks and the Green Development Investment and Financing Partnership to advance low-carbon development. The initiative also focuses on fostering green projects and promoting cooperation among countries in areas such as energy, environmental conservation, and infrastructure.
In 2024, the Green Alliance achieved significant milestones in areas like green energy, green finance, and climate financing. Reports on low-carbon energy transitions for Belt and Road countries were prepared, addressing opportunities and challenges in these transitions. For example, a report on Indonesia and the Philippines highlighted obstacles and collaboration opportunities in their energy transitions, recommending enhanced China-Indonesia cooperation in renewable energy projects and infrastructure improvement.
Green development partnerships with countries such as Honduras and Indonesia are being strengthened. The Green Alliance signed a memorandum of understanding with Honduras to collaborate on renewable energy projects and clean energy technologies. Similarly, new projects focusing on green transportation and carbon management systems are planned between China and ASEAN countries. These joint efforts aim to achieve sustainable development and a low-carbon future within the Belt and Road framework.
