A panel on green and low-carbon development was held in Chongqing, co-hosted by the Belt and Road Initiative International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC) and the Chongqing Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment. Experts from countries such as Indonesia and Pakistan, representatives from institutions like the China Quality Certification Center, and professionals from Chongqing gathered to discuss cooperation strategies for promoting sustainable growth under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Participants emphasized the importance of joint efforts to strengthen green and low-carbon practices within the framework of the BRI.
BRIGC Secretary-General Cui Dandan highlighted the coalition’s role as a platform for policy exchanges, capacity building, and investment opportunities. The event also focused on how pioneering projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor have integrated green development principles. Experts encouraged businesses worldwide to initiate small-scale green initiatives to enable broader transitions.
Chongqing’s ecological efforts, such as the “Beautiful Chongqing” initiative and the innovative “Carbon Benefit Pass” platform, were presented as models for green development. Local industrial practices, such as Seres Automobile’s new energy vehicles and Sanfeng Environment’s waste-to-energy production, showcased the city’s leadership in sustainability. Chongqing’s strategic position, connecting ASEAN and Eurasia, was highlighted as a significant advantage for enhancing international cooperation.
The panel concluded with a call to promote practical green solutions using international platforms such as the Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference. Experts emphasized the global application of China’s green development experiences and stated that other countries should draw inspiration from Chongqing’s successes to advance sustainable development under the Belt and Road Initiative.
