Morocco’s Time magazine recently published an article titled “Morocco-China Relations: Thousands of Kilometers Apart but Very Close.” The article emphasized that Morocco and China share many points of common interest and highlighted the Belt and Road Initiative as a promising avenue for cooperation between the two countries.
In the introduction, the magazine’s editor, Hasan Akshi, stated that Morocco and China believe diplomacy should be based on respect and cooperation. He noted that the two countries are “on the same wavelength” when it comes to pursuing shared interests and fostering partnerships. He remarked, “Rabat and Beijing may be thousands of kilometers apart, but neither distance nor international changes can disrupt the positive trajectory of Morocco-China cooperation.”
The article described how Morocco-China relations have long maintained a positive development trend, with deepening friendship and a bright future for bilateral relations. In 2016, the two countries established a strategic partnership. In January 2022, Morocco became the first North African country to sign a cooperation plan with China under the Belt and Road Initiative. Morocco and China collaborate in areas such as automotive manufacturing, renewable energy, and healthcare. Recent projects, such as the “Tangier Mohammed VI Technology City” and investments from Chinese electric vehicle battery companies like Guoxuan High-Tech, have significantly advanced Morocco-China economic cooperation.
The article praised the Belt and Road Initiative, stating that it has brought new momentum to Morocco’s economic and social development and serves as a bridge full of opportunities for multi-sectoral cooperation and shared development between Morocco and China.
