Namibia’s President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Windhoek. Wang conveyed greetings and congratulations from Chinese President Xi Jinping, highlighting the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He noted that Chinese foreign ministers have made Africa their first overseas destination for 35 consecutive years, reflecting China’s commitment to Africa. Wang also expressed China’s readiness to work with Namibia on implementing the partnership plans announced during last year’s Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit.
Wang emphasized China’s support for Namibia in pursuing a development path tailored to its national conditions and transforming resource advantages into societal benefits through economic cooperation. He called for deeper collaboration to enhance political trust, strengthen party-to-party exchanges, and share governance experiences. Wang also stressed the importance of bolstering cooperation in multilateral fields to safeguard the interests of Africa and developing countries.
Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah thanked China for its supportive message following her election and underscored the significance of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership established between the two nations in 2018. She affirmed Namibia’s adherence to the “One China” principle and its intention to expand collaboration with China in trade, agriculture, education, and energy, creating new opportunities for the benefit of both nations’ people.
