According to aviation sector experts, the “Air Silk Road” initiative will strengthen the air cargo sector between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with Malaysia emerging as a regional logistics hub. The initiative, which connects Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport as “twin hubs,” will streamline logistics processes, reduce transit times, and improve market access, benefiting both businesses and consumers.
Raya Airways CEO Mohamad Najib Ishak emphasized that this partnership marks a strategic milestone in Malaysia-China economic relations, boosting trade, strengthening supply chain resilience, and positioning Malaysia as a key logistics hub within global trade networks. Pete Chareonwongsak, CEO of Teleport, added that the initiative will consolidate ASEAN air freight and link it more effectively with China’s logistics strengths, thus better connecting ASEAN’s fast-growing consumer market.
Mohd Izani Ghani, CEO of Malaysia Airports, noted that strong e-commerce demand has made the Zhengzhou-Kuala Lumpur route one of the fastest-growing cargo corridors. He said KLIA has expanded its capacity and new facilities have accelerated cargo processing. Izani also highlighted that Selangor Aero Park will be Malaysia’s first industrial park dedicated to aviation and aerospace supply chains. Alongside a new transshipment terminal, it will strengthen KLIA’s role as a hub for high-value and perishable goods.
