China is expected to witness a significant increase in air travel ahead of the Spring Festival, with the number of airline passengers during the holiday travel period projected to reach approximately 95 million.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the Year of the Horse will be celebrated on February 17. The Spring Festival travel season is expected to run from February 2 to March 23, during which air transport is projected to carry around 95 million passengers. This figure corresponds to a daily average of approximately 2.38 million passengers and represents an anticipated year-on-year increase of 5.3 percent.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) stated that demand for air travel will be driven by a combination of factors, including homecoming visits, family reunions, the winter holiday period for students, and a rise in leisure and tourism-related travel.
To accommodate the expected surge in demand, approximately 19,400 flights per day have been scheduled for the Spring Festival travel period. This represents an increase of about 5 percent compared with the previous year, highlighting the continued expansion of air transport capacity during China’s peak holiday travel season.
