Sri Lankan President Disanayake concluded his first official visit to China since taking office on January 17 in Sichuan Province. Accompanied by his delegation, Disanayake visited companies in Sichuan to observe China’s advanced technological achievements. He also toured the National Agricultural Science and Technology Center in Chengdu’s Pidu District, where he explored China’s rural development projects and applications of agricultural technology.
During the visit, President Disanayake expressed particular interest in China’s poverty alleviation experience. In Zhanqi Village, he participated in the local production process by trying his hand at mixing Pixian chili bean paste and learned about the village’s economic development model. He highlighted that China’s expertise in this area has made significant contributions to global efforts in poverty reduction and economic development.
Disanayake recalled his visit to Beijing in 2004, emphasizing China’s remarkable achievements in infrastructure, economic growth, and technological innovation. He expressed Sri Lanka’s desire to deepen its cooperation with China under the “Belt and Road Initiative” through joint projects such as the Colombo Port City and Development Project.
It was noted that China and Sri Lanka established diplomatic relations in 1957 and share long-standing friendly ties.
