To implement the outcomes of the Third “Belt and Road” High-Level Intellectual Property Conference, the “Belt and Road” Accelerated Patent Examination Pilot Project will launch on January 20, 2025, and run for two years until January 19, 2027. Following the launch, eligible applicants from participating countries will be able to submit requests for accelerated examination to the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) under the procedures outlined in the “Process for Requesting Accelerated Examination from CNIPA under the ‘Belt and Road’ Accelerated Patent Examination Pilot Project.”
The “Belt and Road” Accelerated Patent Examination Pilot Project was announced as a cooperation initiative by the China National Intellectual Property Administration during the Third “Belt and Road” High-Level Intellectual Property Conference held in September 2024. This project aims to provide faster patent examination for eligible applicants from countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative in China.
The Turkish Patent and Trademark Office became the first participating institution in this project under the framework of the “Letter of Intent for Cooperation on the ‘Belt and Road’ Accelerated Patent Examination Pilot Project between the China National Intellectual Property Administration and the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.”
In the future, the China National Intellectual Property Administration plans to deepen cooperation with the patent examination agencies of more Belt and Road Initiative countries, contributing further intellectual property support to the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative.
