The strengthened air corridor linking China and Malaysia is a prime driver of trade, travel, and people-to-people exchanges, directly enhancing business opportunities and investments between both countries, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said on Tuesday.
As connectivity is the precondition for the movement of capital and people, this air corridor has been an invaluable asset and link between the two countries, and efforts are being made to expand and improve on it, Loke said in his special remarks at the Think Business, Think Hong Kong 2026 symposium here.
“Several carriers fly the route daily on both sides, and Cathay Pacific has added a fourth daily service since March this year, which tells me the commercial demand is real and still growing. In July, Malaysia Airlines added new direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Shenzhen and Changsha, building its Greater China network through nine gateways today,” he said.
“The same logic governs freight. Hong Kong International Airport is among the busiest cargo gateways in the world, while Port Klang sits on one of the most heavily used shipping lanes globally. Malaysia’s exports are increasingly electronics, semiconductors, and other high-value goods that are time-sensitive and travel by air,” he said.
Loke noted that China, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, with its depth in logistics, trade finance, arbitration, and professional services, is naturally positioned as a key gateway for Malaysian exports to a global market.
“If your business depends on moving a product from a Malaysian factory to a customer anywhere in Asia, Europe, or North America quickly and with the documentation in order, this is a corridor you should be examining closely,” he added.
