At the start of the new year, an international freight train loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables departed from Yunnan, China, heading for Vientiane, the capital of Laos. In Chinese supermarkets, bananas imported from Laos enriched consumer choices. This development highlights the strategic importance of the China-Laos Railway as a “Golden Corridor” and underscores the economic benefits of international cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). This railway is not just an economic corridor but is also seen as a significant step toward building a shared future for humanity.
China continues to strongly uphold its call for peace and development as a leader advocating for a shared future for humanity. This vision elevates values rooted in Chinese culture, such as “a shared world” and “living together in peace,” to a global scale. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, China and 155 countries have strengthened trade and transportation networks through joint projects. For instance, China-Europe freight trains have surpassed 100,000 trips, while Peru’s Chancay Port in South America has witnessed the emergence of new transportation routes.
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, in his New Year address, called for “uniting the world” and creating “a better beginning.” Responding to this call, China proposed eight concrete measures to support cooperation with the “Global South.” Furthermore, China’s diplomatic efforts in pursuit of peace have played a critical role in easing conflicts and fostering dialogue in various regions. For example, within the framework of a “Full-Time Partnership,” development projects and peace initiatives between China and Africa are being implemented.
The vision of a shared future for humanity proposed by China has gradually garnered broad support from the international community. This vision has transformed from an ideal into a reality, implemented in areas such as global health, cybersecurity, and sustainable development. It is increasingly recognized in United Nations General Assembly resolutions and multilateral documents. Over the past year, China has formed partnerships with Serbia, African nations, and Brazil, advancing the global adoption of this vision.
China remains committed to promoting solidarity, inclusiveness, and cooperation for humanity to realize the ideal of “a shared world.” This goal can only be achieved through determined efforts across generations. Working together with its international partners, China is resolute in building a peaceful, secure, prosperous, and sustainable future for all.
