In Matangitisa village in Kenya’s Nakuru County, farmers who used grafting techniques taught by Chinese experts are seeing promising results. Gitoh, a local farmer, showcased greenhouse tomato seedlings and remarked, “Chinese agricultural technology has helped us solve major problems.” Modern agricultural projects implemented through China-Kenya cooperation are boosting farmers’ incomes and contributing to local poverty alleviation. For instance, hybrid bean varieties developed by Chinese experts have become a primary source of income, delivering high yields in both dry and rainy seasons.
China-Kenya collaboration extends beyond agriculture to areas like digitalization and green energy, accelerating Kenya’s development. Kilimall, an e-commerce platform established by Chinese entrepreneurs in 2014, has created over 10,000 jobs in Kenya and provided entrepreneurial opportunities for young people. Additionally, contributions from Chinese companies to renewable energy projects are propelling Kenya toward its goal of achieving 100% clean energy by 2030. Projects such as the Orkaria Geothermal Energy Project highlight China’s significant role in Kenya’s energy transition.
Chinese investments in Kenya are yielding substantial progress in areas such as sustainable development and poverty reduction. At the same time, these partnerships underscore China’s commitment to driving development across Africa, particularly in key sectors like agriculture, digital economy, and green energy.
