A comprehensive global public opinion survey, conducted with the participation of 51,000 people from 46 countries and described as the most extensive since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, revealed significant confidence in China’s development potential. According to the survey, China’s economic strength was acknowledged by 77%, its technological strength by 75%, and its financial strength by 72% of respondents. The younger demographic displayed an even more positive perception of China’s technological capabilities. China’s overall strength was regarded as “strong” in Africa, BRICS countries, the Middle East, and developing nations, while over 60% of respondents in ASEAN and European countries and more than 50% in developed countries shared this sentiment.
The survey results showed that over 90% of global participants expressed interest in China, with 63% holding a positive outlook. African nations were among the regions with the highest levels of affinity toward China (84%), followed by BRICS, ASEAN, and Middle Eastern countries. Respondents commonly associated China with key concepts such as “economy,” “technology,” and “innovation.” Additionally, more than 70% of participants expressed favorable impressions of China’s science, technology, and cultural heritage.
A total of 69% of respondents expressed expectations for China to play a more active role in international cooperation and peacebuilding, while 88% supported China’s increased engagement in international organizations. Global initiatives like the “Belt and Road Initiative” gained widespread awareness and support among participants. African, Middle Eastern, and BRICS countries showed strong expectations for China’s economic cooperation and development projects. The survey also revealed that younger generations exhibited greater interest in and more favorable perceptions of China compared to older groups.
