Wang Yi highlighted China’s continuous contributions to global governance since the restoration of its legitimate seat at the United Nations. He noted that China has become a key force in UN peacekeeping operations, providing stability and hope for global peace. Additionally, he underscored President Xi Jinping’s vision of building a shared future for humanity, along with China’s Global Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives, as efforts to reform and improve global governance.
As the world’s largest developing country, China remains focused on high-quality development and expanding its openness to the global economy. Wang noted that China has become a primary trading partner for over 150 countries and regions, advocating for inclusive economic globalization. He emphasized that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) plays a crucial role in fostering global prosperity and development.
Wang also reaffirmed China’s commitment to multilateralism as a founding member of the United Nations, having joined nearly all major intergovernmental organizations and over 600 international treaties. He expressed support for the UN’s central role in global affairs and pledged China’s continued contributions to the international system.
Addressing international conflicts, Wang Yi reiterated China’s support for any efforts conducive to peace talks in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. On the Middle East, he stressed that Gaza and the West Bank are the homeland of the Palestinian people, not political bargaining chips. He called for Palestinian self-governance after the conflict and urged the UN Security Council to move beyond narrow geopolitical interests, fostering unity and cooperation instead.
