Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized at the second China-Central Asia Summit, held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana, that China and Central Asian countries should jointly advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and continue building a community with a shared future under the guidance of the “China-Central Asia Spirit.”
The summit was attended by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The leaders reviewed the progress made since the 2023 Xi’an Summit and highlighted the deepening cooperation in energy, trade, digital economy, and environmental fields.
Xi noted that the cooperation is rooted in over 2,000 years of friendly ties, strengthened by 30 years of diplomatic trust, and has now entered a new stage of mutually beneficial development. He stressed that the China-Central Asia Spirit — founded on mutual respect, trust, benefit, and assistance — serves as a guiding principle for promoting regional peace and joint development.
During the summit, China and the Central Asian countries signed the “Treaty of Eternal Friendship, Good Neighborliness, and Cooperation,” and launched three cooperation centers in areas such as poverty alleviation, educational exchanges, and desertification control, along with a new trade facilitation platform. A total of 12 cooperation agreements were signed, and China announced 3,000 educational scholarships for Central Asian countries over the next two years. It was also confirmed that the next China-Central Asia Summit will be held in China in 2027.
