Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services Jenfan Muswere announced that the country aims to strengthen its environmental cooperation with China.Speaking at a post-Cabinet media briefing, Muswere stated that Zimbabwe’s Minister of Environment, Climate, and Wildlife Sithembiso Nyoni visited China last month to work on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the environmental sector.
“The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations with China on environmental policies in general, and specifically to share experiences in hosting high-level events,” he said. According to the official website of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties (COP 15) will take place from July 23 to 31 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Muswere mentioned that the Zimbabwean government has taken several measures to prepare for the important meeting, adding that an inter-ministerial committee has already been established to lead the preparations. The government also stated that it would use the meeting as an opportunity to enhance its influence and leadership in global environmental governance, conservation, and diplomacy.
