BRICS Cooperation Begins a New Era

History created BRICS, and BRICS is reshaping history. The vision of “Big BRICS Cooperation” symbolizes the strengthening of the BRICS cooperation mechanism alongside the solidarity and collective progress of the “Global South” countries. As we enter 2025, the BRICS family has made significant growth. On January 1, countries such as Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Cuba, Bolivia, and Uganda joined as BRICS partner countries, and on January 6, Indonesia officially became a member of BRICS. These developments signal that BRICS has entered the “Big BRICS Cooperation” era, offering new opportunities for the “Global South.”

BRICS cooperation stands out as a platform for the collective rise of “Global South” countries. With nearly two decades of history, BRICS represents almost half of the world’s population and more than a third of the global economy. It has also contributed over 50% to global economic growth, proving itself as a stable and positive force on the international stage. Malaysian expert Bon Nagara described the existence of the BRICS mechanism as “a powerful symbol of international peace, cooperation, and friendship.”

The BRICS countries have come together with a shared desire to achieve common goals. This cooperation mechanism was established to defend multilateralism, uphold justice and fairness, and promote shared development. While aiming to create a more just and inclusive global order, BRICS continues to serve as an important platform for the rise of “Global South” countries. Brazil’s Forum magazine noted that BRICS will lead global economic growth in 2024 and that “the global economic center of gravity continues to shift toward the Global South.”

As a strong advocate of BRICS cooperation, China promotes the deepening of this mechanism with concepts such as “Peaceful BRICS,” “Innovative BRICS,” “Green BRICS,” and “Fair BRICS.” China aims to make BRICS not only a channel for “Global South” solidarity but also a pioneering force for global governance reform. The high-quality development of “Big BRICS Cooperation” will continue to contribute to world peace and development.
