On December 16, the 3rd China-Indian Ocean Region Blue Economy Development Cooperation Forum was held in Kunming, Yunnan Province, southwest China. During the opening ceremony, Wang Yong, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, emphasized that the construction of a “Maritime Community with a Shared Future” has evolved from a Chinese initiative into an international shared goal. He noted that this transformation has been achieved through the joint efforts of China, countries in the Indian Ocean region, and other relevant parties.
Wang stated that China will continue to deepen practical cooperation in the field of sustainable maritime development, encourage mutual learning among maritime cultures, and make joint contributions to ensuring the harmonious coexistence of humans and the ocean. The forum, themed “Future of the Blue Indian Ocean – Development Practices of the Global South,” gathered over 300 participants from more than 50 countries and international organizations.
