Recently, the “Belt and Road” Multimedia Service Trade Forum, one of the main events of the 2024 Beijing International Audiovisual Conference, was held in Beijing. The forum focused on the theme “New Audiovisual of the Belt and Road: Opportunities, Challenges, and Prospects,” while also launching the Arabic-language “that’s books” mini-series channel.
“that’s books” is an international digital media platform carefully created by the China International Publishing Group, with a wide influence in the Middle East, North Africa, and Latin America regions. The Arabic version of the “that’s books” platform brings together over 20,000 resources, including Chinese-themed and local Arab content, enriching users’ reading experiences through various innovative formats such as e-books, audiobooks, web novels, and short videos.
So far, the “that’s books” Arabic app has been downloaded over 9 million times, with a weekly access rate exceeding 4 million. The app ranks high among local digital publishing platforms in the Arab world and has been described by Arab media as “Amazon from China” and “a ‘Chinese gift’ to Arab readers.”
In recent years, Chinese audiovisual works have gained significant popularity in the Arab world, becoming an important window for Arab audiences to learn about China. At this event, the launch of the “that’s books” platform’s mini-series channel aims to present a selection of high-quality mini-series reflecting China’s daily life, traditional culture, and contemporary values to a broader international market. This move will help bring these emerging short-form cultural products to larger global markets and further enhance the international reach and influence of Chinese culture.
