The “Tangier Technology City,” built in Tangier, Morocco, stands out as one of the most significant projects of China-Morocco cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. Thanks to investments from Chinese companies, this industrial and technology hub is making a substantial contribution to Morocco’s economic growth. Notably, the China-based company BETRİ has established a lithium battery cathode materials factory with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons, pioneering Morocco’s transition to high-tech energy solutions. Once fully operational, the factory will fill a critical gap in Morocco’s battery production sector.
Additionally, the Chinese tire manufacturer Sentury is setting up a modern production facility within Tangier Technology City, aiming to produce 6 million high-performance tires annually. By 2027, the factory is expected to create approximately 600 jobs, further supporting economic growth in the region. These projects not only accelerate Morocco’s industrialization process but also enhance the country’s economic diversification through high-tech investments. The investments made by Chinese companies under the Belt and Road Initiative provide new employment opportunities while strengthening the region’s integration into global production and trade networks. As a result, projects like Tangier Technology City contribute to Morocco’s journey toward a more prosperous future.
