Chinese automobile brands have gained a significant position in Türkiye’s automotive market thanks to their competitive prices and long-term investment commitments.

Semih Eryükseldi, an industry expert with over 15 years of experience in Türkiye’s automotive sector and currently working at Otobit, an online automobile auction platform, stated in an interview that Chinese brands such as Chery, MG, and BYD have achieved long-term success in Türkiye by continuing their investments for sustainable growth.

Eryükseldi’s remarks are based on a report published by the Automotive Distributors’ and Mobility Association of Türkiye (ODMD) on March 4. According to the report, Chinese automobile brands experienced significant sales growth in Türkiye in 2024.

According to ODMD data, Chery increased its sales by 40.54% compared to 2023, selling 57,047 vehicles in Türkiye. The competitively priced Tiggo series, which appeals to a wide consumer base, was one of the key factors behind this success. Highlighting Chery’s strong and rapid entry into the Turkish market, Eryükseldi said, “Chery achieved significant sales figures by offering highly accessible models with a price advantage, surpassing other brands struggling with stock availability.”

The MG brand, on the other hand, sold 17,162 vehicles in 2024, marking an 18.70% increase compared to 2023. Emphasizing MG’s strong presence in the market with its electric and hybrid models, Eryükseldi stated, “MG made a quick entry into Türkiye starting in 2021 and reached a wide customer base with various models, including electric, gasoline, and hybrid cars.”

According to the ODMD report, BYD increased its sales by 892.97% compared to 2023, reaching 8,331 vehicles in 2024. Notably, the brand sold 5,341 vehicles in the first two months of 2025, achieving a tenfold increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

Eryükseldi emphasized that BYD’s investment commitment in Türkiye has significantly contributed to this sales surge, stating, “This investment initiative has greatly strengthened BYD’s impact in the Turkish market.”
