A new highway crossing the Pamir Plateau, connecting China and Tajikistan, is strengthening the ties between the two countries. Reviving the route of the ancient Silk Road, this road facilitates difficult mountain passages and significantly improves regional transportation. The construction process, which began in 2009, saw the completion of the first phase in 2014, and the second phase, covering a total of 92.3 kilometers, is currently underway, transforming Tajikistan’s transportation infrastructure.
The new road brings significant convenience to the local population. Travel times, which once took many hours, are now reduced to just 1.5 hours. This road also allows Chinese vehicles to reach Tajikistan at a lower cost and in less time. With the completion of the road, the number of Chinese cars reaching Tajikistan is expected to increase, accelerating trade between the two countries.
The project not only improved infrastructure but also raised the living standards of the local people. Chinese engineers repaired village roads along the route, making life easier for the locals and creating new job opportunities. With this project, China-Tajikistan cooperation deepens, and it is expected that the Belt and Road Initiative will continue to contribute to regional development.
