Over the past decade, China and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) have made significant progress in strengthening their cooperation. On the 10th anniversary of the China-CELAC Forum, China emphasized that the forum would continue to grow stronger through the joint efforts of both sides. This period has seen enhanced political trust, stronger economic cooperation, increased cultural exchanges, and better coordination on international issues.
Three ministerial meetings and eight rounds of foreign ministers’ dialogues between China and the CELAC Quartet have deepened cooperation. Additionally, 43 thematic sub-forums have been established in key areas such as agriculture, scientific innovation, and green development. These developments have helped both sides explore modernization paths suited to their national conditions. China-Latin America relations have evolved from an initial vision into a practical cooperation mechanism.
Economic cooperation has also seen remarkable growth. In 2024, Chile’s cherry exports increased by 51.4%, with China being the main destination for these exports. China is the second-largest trading partner for Latin America, and many countries in the region have free trade agreements with China. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has become an important platform for trade and economic cooperation, with major projects further consolidating ties. China-Latin America relations are progressing toward building a mutually beneficial and strong partnership.
