Cultural ties between China and ASEAN countries are growing stronger through the film industry. For instance, the Thai film How to Be a Millionaire Before Your Grandma Dies grossed 100 million yuan in China, achieving not only box office success but also fostering cultural connections. The film incorporates elements such as the Chaozhou dialect and local opera, resonating with Chinese audiences.
During the 2024 China-ASEAN Film and Culture Week, 20 films from both regions were screened, highlighting the role of cinema in cultural integration. Chinese films have gained significant attention in ASEAN countries, while digital platforms have enhanced access by integrating media content from both regions. Looking ahead, more projects are planned in areas such as co-production, talent exchange, and technological collaboration.
