During the 2025 World Accreditation Day events, the China National Certification and Accreditation Administration and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) jointly launched the Food Testing Capability Verification Program between China and countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative. Announced at the 2nd China Certification and Accreditation Conference, the program aims to strengthen technical cooperation in food safety by promoting mutual recognition of laboratory test results and enhancing trade trust among participating nations.
Starting from September 2025, international capability verification will be conducted on critical substances such as heavy metals (lead, cadmium, and chromium) and veterinary drug residues (e.g., chloramphenicol). The process will analyze differences in equipment and testing methods among national laboratories, helping to reduce redundant testing and eliminate technical barriers. The China Academy of Inspection and Quarantine will serve as the technical support body responsible for implementing the program.
