The Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Mutual Recognition Agreement between China Customs and Burundi Customs officially came into effect on March 1. With this, the number of countries and regions that have signed AEO mutual recognition agreements with China has reached 48. Burundi has become the third African country, following Uganda and South Africa, to implement AEO mutual recognition with China.
China and Burundi are important trade partners. China’s rubber tires, internal combustion engines, electronic products, automobiles and parts, electromechanical products, and textiles are highly popular in the Burundian market, while Burundi’s minerals, tea, coffee, avocados, and gemstones are gradually expanding their presence in the Chinese market. China Customs announced that it will continue expanding AEO mutual recognition agreements, particularly with countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthening cooperation with African nations, and fostering a secure and trustworthy trade environment.
