The 31st China-ASEAN Senior Officials’ Consultation was successfully held in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. As one of the most important annual dialogue mechanisms between China and ASEAN countries, this meeting was first held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, in 1995. Over the past 30 years, China-ASEAN relations have become one of ASEAN’s most comprehensive and productive partnerships. China was the first major economy to establish a Free Trade Area with ASEAN and among the first to establish a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. For the past five consecutive years, China and ASEAN have been each other’s largest trading partners.
The meeting was co-chaired by Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong and Amran, Secretary-General of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 2025 ASEAN Chair. Senior officials from ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General also participated. The discussions focused on reviewing the implementation of the outcomes from last year’s China-ASEAN Leaders’ Summit and setting priorities for cooperation in 2025. Key topics included trade, investment, green economy, digital ecosystems, clean energy, and cultural exchange, with an emphasis on strengthening collaboration. Additionally, both sides agreed to accelerate the implementation of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area 3.0 and advance regional economic integration under the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) framework.
