During an official goodwill visit to Hungary from July 24 to 28, China’s top legislator Zhao Leji emphasized the importance of mutual trust and win-win cooperation between China and Hungary. Zhao, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), held meetings with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok, Prime Minister Viktor Orban, and Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly Laszlo Kover. He conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings and underlined the significance of the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership established during Xi’s 2024 visit to Hungary.
Zhao stated that China is ready to work with Hungary to align the Belt and Road Initiative with Hungary’s “Eastern Opening” strategy and complete joint infrastructure projects like the Hungary-Serbia Railway. Hungarian leaders expressed strong support for continued cooperation in green energy, AI, the digital economy, education, and cultural exchanges. Orban emphasized that Hungary sees cooperation with China as a strategic move to boost its technological capacity and global market reach.
