Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the sidelines of the second China–Central Asia Summit in Astana, Kazakhstan. During the meeting, Xi stated that China is ready to fully unlock the potential for cooperation with Turkmenistan based on mutual respect and a win-win approach.
Xi emphasized that China and Turkmenistan share strong political trust, a solid will for cooperation, and highly complementary economic strengths. He expressed China’s willingness to further expand the depth, scope, and scale of bilateral cooperation. Xi called for aligning the Belt and Road Initiative with Turkmenistan’s strategy to revive the Great Silk Road, deepening cooperation in the natural gas sector, exploring new areas beyond resources, and strengthening cultural and people-to-people exchanges. He also voiced support for Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization and praised its constructive role in regional and global affairs. Xi reaffirmed China’s readiness to work closely with Turkmenistan to protect the interests of the Global South and to enhance regional connectivity and multilateral cooperation.
