According to data released Wednesday by China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA), the number of trips between the Chinese mainland and member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) exceeded 25.24 million in the first eight months of 2025, marking an 11.2 percent year-on-year increase.
From January to August 2025, more than 14.5 million people traveled from the Chinese mainland to ASEAN countries, up 3.7 percent year on year. During the same period, inbound travel from ASEAN countries to the Chinese mainland surged by 27.5 percent, surpassing 10 million arrivals. The majority of these visitors entered China visa-free.
The NIA said it will introduce further policies to facilitate cross-border travel, encourage exchanges between China and ASEAN countries, and continuously boost regional economic, trade, and socio-economic development.
