Nepal has become a key partner in South Asia for the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2019, China and Nepal elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership, marking a historic milestone in bilateral ties. Over the past five years, the total trade volume between China and Nepal exceeded 55 billion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of 11.7%. In the first 10 months of this year alone, the trade volume between the two countries reached 11.218 billion yuan.
This year, China and Nepal have continued to strengthen the construction of border ports and improve customs clearance efficiency. Four land ports along the China-Nepal border—Gyirong-Rasuwa, Zhangmu-Kodari, Purang-Yari, and Lizi-Nyemo—have been operating steadily and smoothly, promoting bilateral economic and trade cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges. In the first 10 months of this year, the cargo volume passing through these four land ports reached 180,000 tons, representing a 51% year-on-year increase. The high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative has increasingly highlighted the geographical advantages of South Asia’s opening to the world.
