China continues its efforts to advance the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with high-quality development. President Xi Jinping outlined eight priority action plans for the initiative during the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2023. In line with these priorities, strategies to enhance the mechanisms of the BRI were formalized in July 2024 through a resolution adopted at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The BRI not only supports China’s modernization efforts but also aims to foster a community of shared future for humanity and strengthen global cooperation. Within this framework:
- Infrastructure Connectivity: Projects like highways, railways, and maritime transport are planned to enhance regional connectivity.
- Green Development and Innovation: International cooperation platforms will be established in areas such as clean energy, green logistics, and digital collaboration.
- People-to-People Ties: Strengthening ties through education, cultural exchanges, and youth projects is a key objective.
Over the past 11 years, the BRI has become the world’s largest international economic cooperation platform, with more than 150 countries and over 30 international organizations signing cooperation agreements. China has developed strategic alignment mechanisms, expanded infrastructure projects, and facilitated trade and investment through regulatory improvements.
China plans to deepen cooperation with partner countries in areas such as trade and investment liberalization, the development of the digital economy, establishing AI governance standards, and implementing sustainable development projects. Additionally, comprehensive international collaboration is aimed at combating corruption and improving legal frameworks.
These initiatives reflect China’s determination to consolidate its global leadership role and to build a more equitable and sustainable world order.
