China’s Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST), the world’s largest single-dish observatory, is marking its 10th anniversary by embarking on Phase II development to reinforce the nation’s global leadership in radio astronomy. Having cataloged 1,284 pulsars—surpassing the collective discoveries of all other global radio telescopes during the same timeframe—FAST has transitioned toward domestic core technologies, including homegrown microwave ranging sensors designed for all-weather operability. The facility continues to drive breakthroughs in fast radio bursts, gravitational waves, and space surveillance missions.
