Chinese technology companies expanding their activities in Africa are accelerating the continent’s transition to an inclusive and resilient digital economy. Zitong (Tony) Zhou, Head of Enterprise Business for Africa at China Mobile International Limited, stated that investments by Chinese telecom giants in infrastructure and talent development have significantly contributed to Africa’s shift toward a knowledge-based economy.
Speaking at the two-day Africa Tech Summit in Nairobi, Zhou remarked, “Digital transformation in Africa is accelerating, and this is a positive development. We are committed to supporting companies on their digital transformation journey.” The summit brought together policymakers, entrepreneurs, investors, and venture capital representatives to discuss the role of financial innovations, green technologies, and artificial intelligence in creating employment and generating income for African youth.
Zhou also highlighted that China Mobile is supporting local operators in Africa by establishing submarine and terrestrial cable connections and enhancing understanding of 5G technology. The company provides inter-enterprise connectivity services to link multinational firms and ensure reliable internet access. Through its public and private cloud services, China Mobile is further bolstering Africa’s digitalization efforts, thereby strengthening global technological cooperation within the framework of China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
