Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi participated in the seventh Foreign Ministers’ meeting of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) via video link on Tuesday. As a founding member of CICA, Wang emphasized that China has actively participated in the CICA process, has always supported its development, and will continue to do so.

Wang stressed that ensuring security, promoting development, maintaining cooperation, and seeking win-win outcomes are the urgent demands of the overwhelming majority of countries. He called on CICA to play a unique role in this regard, to build a community with a shared future for Asia, and to expand new space for win-win development.

Wang urged CICA member countries to adhere to the principles of peaceful coexistence and common security, to jointly advance the Belt and Road Initiative for the promotion of prosperity and development, to practice multilateralism, and to work together to build a better world. He noted that China’s modernization, which follows a path of peaceful development, brings more opportunities to Asian countries. Wang added that China is ready to work with CICA member countries to create a new form of Asian civilization that involves win-win development through solidarity and coordination.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Murat Nurtleu, as CICA’s chair for the past two years, discussed the work done during his tenure, while Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister, Jeyhun Bayramov, as the new chair, provided insights on key issues for the next steps.

All parties agree that CICA member states must unite and build mutual trust, deepen strategic coordination, strengthen and develop the CICA mechanism, enhance the organization’s influence, and work with the Global South to address global challenges. They will explore ways to better synergize the Belt and Road Initiative and the Global Security Initiative, promote regional connectivity, and foster mutual understanding among countries.
