In the eastern Maltese town of Swieqi, the 20th Chinese medical team provided free clinical services to local residents. Operating under the Mediterranean Regional Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine (MRCTCM), a joint initiative between the Chinese and Maltese governments, the team offered blood pressure and blood sugar checks, personalized health consultations, and distributed free medical supplies.
The event began with a presentation by team member Tang Limei, who introduced Baduanjin, a traditional Chinese aerobic exercise known for its health benefits. Following the demonstration, participants eagerly joined in to try the exercise themselves. Elderly attendees noted that Baduanjin is beneficial not only for seniors but also for younger individuals, and many expressed their intention to continue practicing it at home.
Established in 1994, the MRCTCM has so far hosted over 100 Chinese doctors through 20 medical teams, delivering traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) services to around 250,000 Maltese patients. Participants in the Swieqi event expressed hope that similar health initiatives would be supported by more local councils in the future.
