At the China-Laos Railway station, a busy and orderly working environment is observed as containers are transferred. Containers filled with products arriving from Thailand are meticulously loaded onto the “Lanmian Express” trains heading to China, while containers carrying Chinese goods such as beer and ointment are set off toward Thailand.
According to data from China Railway, in 2024, 272 direct train services were operated on the China-Laos-Thailand railway line, transporting a total of 144,900 tons of goods, representing increases of 60% and 71.7%, respectively. These developments highlight the role of the China-Laos Railway as a crucial bridge in the trade relationship between China and Thailand, serving as a “golden road” for shared development.
In addition, China and Thailand are collaborating on an innovative model that integrates road and rail transportation. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and cold chain products from Thailand are first transported by road to Vientiane in Laos, and then shipped directly to Kunming, China via the “Lanmian Express.” This integrated approach effectively reduces transportation costs and ensures the efficient flow of goods. Moreover, with the commencement of international passenger services on the railway, the monthly passenger count has increased from 600,000 to 1.6 million, further strengthening cultural exchanges between the peoples of China and Thailand.
